HARLEM
HARLEM
As part of a workshop with photographers Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, I explored the streets of Harlem for seven days, repeatedly revisiting the same spots, streets, parks and stores. Several years later, I returned to Harlem, hoping to photograph it again, but realizing my relationship to the area was different. Since this experience, my street work has explored the sensitivities involved in how one approaches and photographs a place, and how street photographers must reckon with the boundaries of transparency, privilege and presence while working in diverse communities.
