love island detroit
In Summer 2022, when Amy was walking in her beloved local park, she started noticing couples with that familiar fresh love vibe. Just two years into her own relationship, she recognized that spark. She began approaching couples — whether they were touching or laughing or sometimes kissing. What’s interesting is that the majority of couples Amy photographed told her they were in fact new in their relationships, often less than two years in. She started to think about what that says about when and how we show that affection in relationships — and how it physically materializes in the space or closeness between couples.
Amy began to see the series “Love Island Detroit” as a metaphor for the place we all go to when we are starry eyed and newly in love. A space of equal parts romance, mystery and escape — where all you need is a towel, a little sunscreen and the belief that anything is possible.
